  • As per Article 243-C(5)(a)  of the Constitution, Village Panchayat Chairpersons may be  elected directly or indirectly as the Legislature of the State may, by law, provide;
  • As per Article 243-C(5)(b) of the Constitution, Chairpersons of Intermediate and  District Panchayats shall be elected indirectly.
  • Except for 8 States/Union Territory, the Chairperson of Village Panchayat is directly elected
