As part of ‘Gramoday se Bharat Uday Abhiyan’ celebrations, the Ministry of Panchayati Raj had organised a one-day ‘National Meeting of Tribal Women Gram Panchayat Presidents from Fifth Schedule Areas’ on the theme of “Role of Women Gram Panchayat Presidents in the Development of the Fifth Schedule Areas” at Vijayawada on April 19, 2016. Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Shri Nara Chandrababu Naidu presided over the meeting and delivered the Presidential Address. Hon’ble Cabinet Minister for Rural Development, Panchayati Raj, and Drinking Water & Sanitation Chaudhary Birender Singh inaugurated the National Meeting. The Hon’ble Minister of Tribal Affairs Shri Jual Oram, Minister of State for Panchayati Raj Shri Nihal Chand, Minister of State for Rural Development, Shri Sudarshan Bhagat and Minister of State for Drinking Water & Sanitation, Shri Ram Kripal Yadav also graced the occasion. The Hon’ble Minister from Government of Andhra Pradesh for Panchayati Raj, Rural Water Supply, MGNREGS, Shri CH. Ayyannapatrudu, Minister for Social Welfare & Empowerment, Tribal Welfare & Empowerment, Shri Ravela Kishore Babu, Minister for Irrigation, Command Area Development & Water Resources Management Department, Shri Devineni Uma Maheswara Rao, Minister of Rural Development, Housing, Sanitation Department, Smt. Kimidi Mrunalini, Chairperson, ZPTC, Krishna District Smt Gadde Anuradha, Secretary, MoPR Shri S M Vijayanand and Additional Secretary, MoPR Shri A. K. Goyal also shared the dais.
2 674 Tribal Women Gram Panchayat Presidents along with more than 200 State officials from the Fifth Schedule Areas of 10 States of Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana participated in the National Meeting. Tribal Women Gram Panchayat Presidents, one each from these States, shared their experiences in the development of their respective Gram Panchayats. Senior officials from the Central Ministries of Home Affairs and Women & Child Development had also participated in the meeting.
3 During the meeting, three parallel sessions were organised to deliberate on various issues related to “Preparation of PESA specific Gram Panchayat Development Plans” moderated by Shri A. K. Goyal, Additional Secretary, MoPR, “Implementation of PESA” moderated by Shri Anand Jain, Director, Ministry of Home Affairs, Govt. of India & Shri Parimal Singh, Deputy Secretary to Governor, Govt. of Maharashtra and “Women related Issues” moderated by Smt Amita Patra, Asst. Director, SIRD&PR, Govt. of Odisha & Dr. N. V. Madhuri, Assistant Professor, NIRD&PR, Hyderabad. The plenary session was chaired by the Hon’ble Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, GoI Shri Nihal Chand. The recommendations of these parallel sessions were shared with the gathering during the plenary session. The National Meeting accomplished with the concluding remarks by the Minister of State for Panchayati Raj, Shri Nihal Chand.
